Freeze dried food

So what is freeze drying?

To put it simply, you're freezing the food the with super low temperatures (-40 F) in a vacuum. When you gently heat the water back up it sublimates (because it's in a vacuum) out of the food and creates food that is light, airy, crunchy and concentrated in flavor.

Freeze drying is growing in popularity and the most common item people have had freeze dried is astronaut ice cream. There are many other commonly freeze dried products (corn, peas, berries), but they don't compare to the fresh and minimally processed items on this site.

Freeze drying food retains 97% of the nutritional value of the product while concentrating the flavor of the food in an intense way. Another advantage of freeze drying food is it's shelf stability; items packed in the right container are shelf stable for up to 25 years, they are light and easy to bring on the go as well.

These foods can be re-hydrated or eaten as is. All the products on this site are intended to be eaten as a crunchy snack, but we won't stop you if you want to experiment with other way to use the food on this site. For example powdering some peaches to add to your smoothie, or adding some freeze dried corn directly into your simmering soup. The possibilities are endless!
